Seeded Sponge Filter
Contains LIVE beneficial nitrifying bacteria necessary to process ammonia and nitrites into nitrates. Purchasing seeded filters/media assists in speeding up a properly cycled tank. Cycling a new tank can be performed without using seeded media, however it may take up to an additional 2-3 months to build a colony adequate enough to sustain the needed bioload.
Sponge filters require an airline hose and air pump to function. These are offered as a package deal under the “ALL-IN-ONE” kit. The kit also comes with 2 air stones, line connectors, and check valves.
If purchasing for an axolotl tank, it is recommended to purchase at least double the filtration size listed. Axolotls typically produce 2-3x the amount of bio-load than that of most other aquatic pets. For example: If purchasing a filter for a 25 gallon tank, it is recommended to run a filtration system for at least that of a 50 gallon tank size.
All seeded filters are treated and shipped in the same manner as any livestock as it does contain LIVE bacteria. Upon receiving your seeded filter, it is imperative to place into tank immediately.
NOTE: Nitrifying bacteria still need an ammonia source as food to survive, so please ensure you are still introducing a sufficient amount of ammonia to supplement adequately while cycling.
*Placing a seeded filter AIDS in cycling your tank, it’s presence does not mean your tank is completely cycled*
